By 2030, all the ingredients we use in our products will biodegrade completely and quickly. Here we explain what this means in practice and how we are making it happen. When people use home, beauty and personal care products - from shampoos and body washes to laundry detergents and washing-up liquids - they end up going down the drain.
Microplastics aren't biodegradable and don't ever break down completely. We use them in beauty products and flush them through waterways right into our water treatment systems. But the particles are often too small to be filtered out and end up in the oceans, playing their part in the microplastic pollution in oceans.
Love Beauty and Planet says on their website, they have a goal for net-zero emissions and 100% biodegradable ingredients by 2030. They also have a list of sustainable achievements including 195,000 products donated and about 8 million plastic bottles kept from the ocean.
Beyond the delicious packaging, one strong impression from the event was how Love Beauty and Planet views a love of beauty (hence the name) and eco-friendly values as one and the same.
Love Beauty and Planet makes personal care products like shampoo and body wash for under $10 each. I tried the coconut and jasmine shampoo and conditioner and the rose and murumuru butter body wash. They hydrated my skin and hair exceptionally well. They're also good for the planet and smell great.
At Love Beauty and Planet we operate with sustainability at our core. Working to further reduce our environmental impact is a labor of love, and we're inspired by the challenge to make our planet a little more beautiful. Our journey of improvement is ongoing, and we promise to be open and honest about the challenges we face.
